No the bottles uses a spe pem membrane method so it will not allow the pH influencing gases through it, just h2

Good question! The carbon can be crushed and disposed with your garden waste or can be added to flower beds (it will improve soil drainage and will slowly biodegrade); the plastic cups can be disposed in the recycling bin.

once opened, what shelf life does the Spectrum General Purpose DI Resin have before it must be disposed of?

There is no specified lifetime. The bag is not resealable. It has to be kept in a sealed container once opened.
