No the bottles uses a spe pem membrane method so it will not allow the pH influencing gases through it, just h2

Good question! The carbon can be crushed and disposed with your garden waste or can be added to flower beds (it will improve soil drainage and will slowly biodegrade); the plastic cups can be disposed in the recycling bin.

how often should this filter be washed/cleaned and how many times can it be reused?

This depends on the quality of the water. The filter can be used for up to 18 month, rinsed as required. Sometimes filters can't be rinsed completely, and have to be changed earlier.
